Swim Club Patio
Swim Club Patio
This renovation of the patio of a neighborhood swim club was so successful it looks like it has always been this way. The entrance to the club was transformed from an uninviting fenced area to an open plan with plenty of seating and an abundance of flowers. Seating was increased from 16 to 46 with no change in square footage. The plastic chairs and umbrella tables were replaced with a custom designed and built wrap-around bench, and cafe tables and chairs which can be rearranged as needed. An awning over the banquette provides shade and an opportunity for cheerful string lights, as well as shelter from a passing rainshower.
The awning and benches were designed and built as one unit, making for a sturdy, streamlined, and enduring structure. A concern of club members was to minimize maintenance, so the benches were made of 4x4 Ipe, and the bench supports and hardware galvanized, all of which will be long-lasting and require little to no treatment.
